The winner of the First Prize, Audience Prize and Bach Prize at the 1993 Menuhin Competition, Czech Gabriela Demeterova is a household name in her country: she is a TV and radio presenter, and collaborates frequently with mainstream music acts. A student of Nora Grumlikova and Marta Libalova, Gabriela doubled down as a viola player in 2001, which allowed her to release records of violin-viola "duets" for Supraphon. Gabriela plays on a 1855 Giuseppe Rocca and on a 1743 Guarneri del Jesu, lent by The State Collection of Instruments of The National Museum in Prague. The viola she plays was built exclusively for her by Dalibor Bzirsky, Czech Violin Maker, in 2006.
