An accomplished soloist and chamber musician, Birgit Kolar was a prize winner at the 1991 Menuhin Competition. From 1994 to 1996, she was concertmaster with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and has since played as guest concertmaster with European orchestras like the Bavarian State Orchestra (Munich State Opera), the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a regular presence with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Birgit studied with Rainer Küchl, Jela Spitkova, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Robert Masters and Josef Luitz. She plays on a Carlo Bergonzi, Cremona 1723 from the “collection of rare instruments” owned by the National Bank of Austria.
