Join the all star jury in their search for the very best violin virtuosos. Be live in the concert hall and witness some stunning performances. Enjoy the incredibly varied and exciting repertoire designed to test the skills of each player and be the first to know the winners.

13 of the 22 Senior competitors will play to jury and audiences for their place in the Senior Semi-finals. Each competitor performs a 25 minute programme with their choice of the following works:

One of the following sonatas:
J.S. BACH Sonata No.1 in G minor,BWV 1001, Siciliana and Presto
J.S. BACH Sonata No.2 in A minor,BWV 1003, Andante and Allegro
J.S. BACH Sonata No.3 in C major, BWV 1005, Largo and Allegro assai

The second movement of one of the following violin concertos:
W.A. MOZART from Violin Concerto No.1 in B flat major, K.207
W.A. MOZART from Violin Concerto No.2 in D major, K.211
W.A. MOZART from Violin Concerto No.3 in G major, K.216
W.A. MOZART from Violin Concerto No.4 in D major, K.218
W.A. MOZART from Violin Concerti No.5 in A major, K.219

OLE BULL  Polacca from Polacca Guerriera

The competitor's own choice of composition written in the last 25 yrs for solo violin

Exhibition - Ole Bull Guarneri del Gesù Project

10.00 - 19.00h

Internationally renowned violin maker, restorer and dealer Christophe Landon is organising this exciting project around Ole Bull's famous Guarneri del Gesù violin. Violinmakers from around the world are invited to make a copy of the ‘Ole Bull’ 1744 Guarneri del Gesù violin. The copies may not only be looked at - theye are there to be played by competitors, students and visiting violinists.

The instruments can also be heard in concert.

Also on show will be a selection of Hardanger fiddles from the collection of Kjell Chr. Midtgaard, among them an instrument by Erik Johnsen Helland from 1862. All instruments equally available for playing.

A day for the children at Barratt Due Music Institute

12.00-16.00h

Open day for children aged 3 – 13. If you play an instrument or sing, wonder if you should start playing, or just like to listen to others, then this is your chance. You can try what it feels like to be in a toddler’s music preschool, find out how to play different instruments, learn to improvise with others, sing in a choir, listen to the Barratt Due Children’s Orchestra or maybe make your own CD. Bring your own instrument if you have one.

Fiddle Jazz - Ola Kvernberg Trio

Ola Kvernberg Trio play a mixture of bebop, folk music, blue grass and modal jazz. The result is quite unique: Everything from the outrageous energy explosion to the extremely fragile and melancholic. On his latest album Folk (2009) he challenge genre boundaries and gives his music a more personal direction.
