Welcoming the Menuhin Competition to Oslo and starting a 10 days extravaganza of concerts and events, the Opening Concert will feature an exciting range of violin music. From Saint-Saëns' Rondo Capricioso and Vaughn Williams' Lark Ascending to some excellent Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle playing, the concert illustrates this years' motto: Music Connects!

It is made up of Norway's very best musicians and often described as the equivalent to a National Team of Music. Nationally and internationally renowned for their wide range of repertoire and activities, the orchestra is one of Norway's "cultural pillars". From the start of the 2009/10 season, former Menuhin Competition winner and Dutch violinist Isabelle van Keulen will share the position as Music Director together with Tonnesen and with Leif Ove Andsnes as Principal Guest Director.
